Jade's Mission's Very First Weekend of Outreach!

The volunteers at Jade's Mission have been waiting all week for our first weekend of outreach and to get things rolling. We would like to show everyone exactly what we are doing when we say we are going on outreach in the inner city to help animals. When I first started doing outreach a few years back I had no idea how bad the conditions these animals lived in really was. It shocked me and then it motivated me to keep going and stay out there for them. Without outreach groups like Unleashed, Chain of Hope, and Jade's Mission out there helping these neglected animals, they would just suffer and some would die horrible deaths. There are so many dogs in this city that live a lonely, miserable life at end of a chain and we want to be out there to make their life a little bit better and make them a little more comfortable. We want to be an advocate for the animal's that can't defend themselves and can't get away from their horrible lives. Here are some of the animals we helped this weekend. I want people to see why we need to be out there.

 These three dogs here are all in the same backyard. The young black pup pictured above was tangle around a tree, unable to get to his food or water when we arrived. He was so excited when we untangled him! Both of these boys that are tethered had the beginnings of fly strike on their ears. We got them hooked up with a fly catching bag and put fly ointment on both their ears. We left a bottle of fly ointment with the owner to continue to put on their ears. The small terrier mix here just showed up at this guys house about a month ago and he has been hanging around with the other dogs. If we can find rescue for him, we will get him out of this situation. 
 

Here is Marilyn hanging up a fly bag. These fly bags can make such a big difference to a dog. They attract flies into the bag and keep them from bothering the dog and from causing fly strike.

                              

This poor dog we have been helping for along time. He is chained in the front yard of a vacant home 'to protect the property'. He is the sweetest boy and doesn't even bark. We stopped by to see how he was doing and he had bad fly strike already forming. We lathered on the fly ointment on to keep the flies off and to heal the already bleeding wounds. We got him off his chain and fixed up on a light weight cable tie-out. He got fresh water, dinner, and a tasty pig ear. We hung up a fly bag to help with the fly control until we can get back to check on him next weekend.

 These two dog are named Sox (the brown pit) and Baby Girl (the white pit) and they are total sweethearts! They know when we pull up that they are going to get treats, toys, and food! It has only been a week since we had stopped by to check on them and their fly bags were already overflowing and they had fly bite wounds on their ears and legs. We got them both fresh fly bags and put more ear ointment on their ears and smoothed it over their whole bodies. We have been continuing to work with these dog's situation and trying to get the owner's to step up for these dogs. It's a roller coaster battle that we will continue to fight so these two don't suffer.

We stopped by White Boy's house to check on him. White Boy is a beautiful boy that loves his pig ears! We hung up a fly bag for him and while we were playing around with him we heard something coming from the shed he was chained next too. Marilyn looked in the only window this shed had and found a beautiful female pit chained inside. There were flies coming out of the window and it smelt terrible. No one was home at this house, so after a lot of effort we got the shed door open and this is what we found. This poor girl is living in the dark in her own filth. We took lots of pictures and have sent them off to KCMO animal control. We will keep everyone posted on this dogs situation. You never know what you are going to find and that's why you have to keep rechecking addresses and keep going back.

I love this old girl. She was the first dog I helped when I started doing outreach and have gone back to help her ever since. She is very old and has a lot of missing hair. I keep up with her and always make sure she is comfortable during the hot summer and cold winter. We hung a fly bag up for her and gave her some tasty treats!

It's always so disheartening to see all these dogs in such awful situations knowing you can't save them all. But it's so uplifting when we actually do get to save some and get them out of an impending life of misery. Today we were able to do just that! We rescued 3 female puppies. They were starving and thirsty. They are now very comfortable in a foster home. I will be blogging more about their story soon. They are only 6 weeks old and after we get them healthy, they will be available for adoption!

Jade's Mission is just starting out and spreading it's wings! We want to be out there for these animals but we can't do it without your donations. We are in desperate need of more catching fly bags to fight the never ending battle of flies for these poor dogs. We are also in need of collars that have a buckle, dry dog food, and water buckets. We have several drop off locations in the KC area where donations can be dropped off at and we have a PO Box where monetary donations can be sent to.
